Australian Electoral Commission

The best thing about living in a democracy is that we can all have a say in our future. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are underrepresented when it comes to voter enrolment, so we went about changing that.

The brief

Ahead of the last federal election, the Australian Electoral Commission’s Indigenous Participation Program had a goal to empower First Nations people to ensure they had their say in Australia’s future.

To do this, we needed to raise voter participation along with communicating important polling day changes.

The work

From footy stars to great actors, we wrangled some of Australia’s most celebrated Indigenous talent to be the faces of this energetic campaign. Led by a slick TVC, the Our Vote Our Future campaign was rolled out across the country in the lead up to the poll.

The good

The campaign reached all corners of the country — improving awareness among Indigenous Australians and ultimately, giving them all a say in their future.

Only 58% of Indigenous Australians were enrolled to vote before the last federal election.

So we gave Indigenous Australians a chance to have a say in their future.

We created a series of in-language videos aimed at remote communities, encouraging everyone to make their voices heard.
